I had so much fun putting together a holiday gift guide for you that I’ve been thinking I should put my spending problem towards good use by sharing some of my favourites. From things I’ve been using for years to things I’ve just picked up, I’ll periodically share them on this space as a way to help anyone looking to try something new. So without further ado, here's the first of my NK favourites!
Dove Cool Essentials Dry Spray Deodorant
Do you have a sweating problem? No matter how often you apply your deodorant you still feel sweaty and gross? Fear not because this cool essentials anti-perspirant dry spray from Dove is a game changer! Goodness Nero, that sounded like such a sales pitch, ew. But you guys, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product so damn much I don't know how else to word it!
I have tried a variety of deodorants in my lifetime... from Secret to Lady Speed Stick to Degree to Nivea to Addidas, you name it, I’ve tried it! But nothing has ever compared. My best told me about it over the summer and nothing has stopped my perspiration as well. Dove claims that this deodorant offers up to 48 hours of protection and soothes underarm skin. I’m not sure if I’ve noticed smoother pits, but I can definitely say that it provides a great deal of odor protection. There is a debate whether antiperspirant deodorants (deodorants that contain aluminum which temporarily block your sweat glands from producing sweat) are good for you or not. If you are concerned, please know that there are more natural deodorants out there. This is just the one I've been using and have come to adore.
Sugar Reef Lalicious Scrub
Only recently have I entered into the world of body scrubs. With my extremely dry winter skin, boy am I glad I did. If you love using coconut oil, you will definitely love this one. This scrub includes both coconut and almond oils and smells so light and divine. It’s also gentle enough to use every day! The 16oz ($37) will definitely be more bang for your buck.
The 2oz ($11) is tiny, and will finish before you know it (been there, done that). I really do notice less dead skin cells on the inside of my tights after I use this. But, I definitely do not cream my legs enough to make a fair judgement based on just that (lol). I would purchase this again in the future. The smell alone leaves me refreshed!
I've also been hearing great things about the Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub from Lush. Maybe I'll give that a try now that I've run out of this one. Have any of you used it? Pros cons? Let me know!
Cherry Chree Nail Polish
Can I just say that the beauty section of Winners is such a fun corner to venture off into! Cherry Chree nail polishes are so smooth, clump free, and take forever to chip! I got four of these polishes + remover pads soaked in cuticle oil for just $7!
Unfortunately, I'm not the greatest fan of their polish remover. You’ll have to go through 3 - 4 pads before you're able to get everything off. The bottles are small but how often do you find yourself finishing an entire bottle before it dries out? I don't. Personally, I've come to prefer the smaller sizes and would recommend these over Essie, Sally Hansen, and OPI. #WINNERSFABFINDS
Is it weird that my skin guru is actually my older brother? Ever since I was a kid, my brother drilled it into my head how I need to wash my face regularly. Whenever I got lazy with my skin care regime and pimples start popping up, I could count on my brother to call me out on them. It was actually my brother who introduced me to Paula’s Choice. I don’t use Paula’s Choice for everything but I do use their leave-in exfoliant. Remember: what works for my skin might not work for you. Be mindful when trying any new product. When in doubt, consult a skin care professional.
Biosource Foaming Cream for Normal Skin
I’m sharing this face wash here, but I’m still trying to determine whether or not I actually love it. You see, I LOVE Biotherm, and have always had a positive experience with their face washes. When I first started using this brand, I was using the face wash in the white tube (which is specific for sensitive skin types). It worked so well for me, and I was happy with what I was using ... until I ran out. It seems they may have changed the formula or the packaging - I’ve been unable to find it ever since. The recent one I picked up in the teal tube (Biosource Foaming Cream for Normal Skin) is a tad too harsh and leaves my skin feeling a little too tight for my liking. Again, I still adore Biotherm, and if you're looking to change up anything from your skin care regime, they are a great place to start.
Lush Comforter Shower Cream
If you are ever inside a Lush, please do yourselves a favour and take a woof of the Comforter Shower Cream. If you like things that smell sweet (more specifically bubble gum) you can thank me later. My entire washroom permanently smells like this. Everyone who walks in comments on that fact. This is obviously more expensive than a drugstore body wash, but a drugstore body wash will NEVER leave you feeling as happy. I’m such a sucker for Lush products, and this one is right at the top!
Jason And The Argan Oil Lush Shampoo Bar
I can never stop raving about Jason and The Argan Oil, and my friends and family are the first to notice whenever I use something else. A shampoo bar is essentially like a bar of soap that you use on your head. There isn't a specific way it needs to be stored either. I place it in the corner of my shower and it's good to go for the next time I wash my hair. Over the summer, I worked at a day camp where I swam everyday. By the end of the 9 weeks, the chlorine had completely dried out my hair. In a desperate attempt to fix my hair I picked up this shampoo bar. Sure you can use hair masks from time to time to get your hair feeling nice. But, this has become such a long term solution for me that I share it with my family and friends every chance I get.
A few weeks ago, I used a drugstore shampoo instead. BIG MISTAKE. The difference was UNBELIEVABLE! Even I was surprised. I didn't think that after one wash my hair would go back to feeling like it did in the summer. I wish I had picture proof to show you exactly what I'm talking about. Dear Lush Gods, you really did nail it with this one!
