Holiday Gift Guide : Spread Love. Give Joy. Take Care of Yourself.

Oh Joy!: 50 Ways to Create & Give Joy
If you've ever talked to me in person, you probably have an idea of how much I ADORE Joy just from the sheer number of times I have casually mentioned her name in conversation. If you are ever in need of some creative inspiration, her blog, Oh Joy! is the perfect place to turn. There are so many great things I want to say about Joy - my words will never do justice. A peak into this book, and you too will understand how Joy is able to turn just about anything into magic.

If you have a craft loving friend in your life, this can be the perfect gift to help get their creativity flowing. Heck, you can probably gift this to yourself. We can all use some new inspiration in our lives, and Joy makes it easy. She guides you through fun and easy DIY projects that you can try right at home.  If your budget for gifts this year is limited, you can pull out a project straight from this book (like this super cute bauble key chain!) and gift that instead. Trust me, you can find inspiration for just about anything from her book. Just the other day, I pulled out a template from Oh Joy!: 60 Ways to Create & Give Joy for an art activity that I'll be doing with my kindergarten students next week!

Lush Charity Pot
Do you have a coworker or friend you want to get something for, but you're not quite sure what to get them? Well, fear not because the Lush Charity Pot is that perfect gift that'll keep on giving! In 2007, Lush came up with a hand and body lotion called Charity Pot. Since then, 100% of the lotion's purchasing price (minus the taxes) goes towards supporting a grassroots charity either locally or internationally. By supporting grassroots charities, Lush provides help to those who need financial support to continue what they do. In addition to all that the Charity Pot does for others, the lotion itself is extremely moisturizing ... the perfect kind of moisture for all the dry that Winter brings. 52 List Project
The start of a new year is the perfect time to gift someone the opportunity to start The 52 Lists Project! This book is filled with a year of weekly journal inspirations, a list prompt for every week of the year. For those who are looking to get back into writing, but just don't have enough time to do so, having a journal in this format can be a game changer. With all my new year resolutions that have fallen through in the past, I didn't even bother making any in 2016. Instead, I used the 52 Lists Project as a way to actively reflect on the kind of year I envisioned for myself, and the things I'd have to work on in order to get there.

I wrote a post back in May on how I use The 52 List Project and some of my favourite list prompts at the time. Moorea Seal's newest journaling book called 52 Lists for Happiness: Weekly Journaling Inspiration For Positivity, Balance, and Joy is now available. I have yet to use this one, but I can't wait to get my hands on it before the start of a new year!

PetSmart Gift Card
Don't forget about the fur babies you know in your life. With all the expenses that come with raising a fur child, you can't go wrong with getting a PetSmart gift card that your friends can use to treat their fur kids this holiday season. Sometimes you might not know what your fur friends can eat, what toy they're able to play with (Oden loves squeaky toys) , or the grooming services they already use. A gift card is the perfect way to show your friends you thought about their fur babies without worrying too much about what they might not be able to use. Remember, it doesn't have to be a gift card with a whole lot of money on it. If your friend has a pet, they most likely visit PetSmart a few times a month and any amount on a gift card will make their day brighter.

MUJI Pens
Your stationary loving friends will thank-you for this one. You've probably already heard, but MUJI is a Japanese company that now has three locations right here in Toronto (Square One, Yorkdale, and one near the Eaton Centre).  MUJI has an array of products ranging from home furniture, clothing, and skin care... but, it's their stationary section that people rave about. Their ink pens have quickly become one of my favourites and make the perfect little gifts to include in a back to school care package for your friends. As a student myself, I can use all the bit of motivation I can get during my study binges, and new pens are all it takes to get started. These pens are less than $2 each!

Everyone can use a little pick me up after the holiday break. You can put together a back to school/work care package with post it notes, hand sanitizers, lip balms, pens, and more. Remember, sometimes it's the little things that go a long way.

TiebarTies
The Tie Bar is an online accessory shop that sells pocket squares, tie bars, socks, belts, and more. Sometimes the men in our life don't really share what exactly they want, and stocking up their accessory stash with fun new styles can be that perfect practical gift for them. If you're not quite sure what kind of patterns they're into (trust me, there are so many things to choose from on the site it gets a little overwhelming) you can never go wrong with a gift card. That way, you can give the gift of style without having to be the person who picks everything. The Tie Bar is currently offering free shipping on Canadian orders over $60.

I got J a gift card about two years ago, and the ties are still in great shape! I wasn't able to take a picture of the ties I got him (honestly, the selections have probably changed since then anyways) so this screenshot of their homepage will have to do for now.

Fossil Q
I don't typically wear a lot of jewellery, but you'll ALWAYS see me wearing a watch. All the watches I have purchased in the past have been thin watch faces accompanied by a black leather band. As a former Apple employee and a huge Apple fanatic, I never in a million years thought I'd happily be rocking an Android wear watch. The Q Wander has quickly become one of my favorite accessories, and makes a great alternative! iPhone users like myself will experience a few limitations while using the watch compared to Android users. But, a sales associate from Fossil will be more than happy to explain what exactly to expect. I use the watch for basic functions like checking my email, notifications, and my daily steps. I really have no complaints. Changing the watch face has become a secret addiction of mine, but this face is probably my all-time favourite. 12 Month Subscription To A Magazine Of Choice
I wish I could take credit for this gift idea, but this one was all J! After the countless amount of times I have snuck a Cosmopolitan into his things right before check out, I think he had enough and decided he'd be better off getting me a 12 month subscription to them (hehe). What a smart man! It really is a cheaper alternative and a great pick me up that'll find its way to your doorstep every.single.month. Everyone loves getting mail (when it's not bills of course), so why not gift someone a one year subscription to their favorite magazine?

If you are in the middle of exam hell and/or it's been a stressful few weeks at work, remember that the holidays are close and you'll have some time to recharge, sleep in, and take it easy. You will get through whatever it is you're going through. I know that the weeks leading up to the holidays can be a very stressful time for a lot of people, especially with all sorts of deadlines creeping up. Even if you are not celebrating anything in the upcoming weeks, please do not forget to take care of yourself.

Lots of Love,

Nero
